Artist Statement

Canyonlands National Park in southeastern Utah is known for its dramatic desert landscape carved by the Colorado River. Island in the Sky is a huge, flat-topped mesa with panoramic overlooks. Looking out over canyonlands, you can’t help imagining the ancient people that once lived here. The park still holds the remains of evidence of the Ancestral Puebloans and the hunter-gatherers from the Late Archaic Period (2000-1000 BC) from their rock art in the form of petroglyphs.
